1. William Brownlie born circa 1814 and died 14 January 1881[1]. William married Grace Dickson born 1812 and died 13 April 1888[2].

They had issue:

1. William Brownlie born circa 1845 and died 5 January 1846[3].

2. Margaret Brownlie born circa 1859 and died 11 December 1926.

3. Grace Brownlie born circa 1845 and died on 18 May 1931.

3. Agnes Brownlie born in April 1787 at Braeside Covington and died in May 1787.

4. Alexander Brownlie born 13 April 1788 at Braeside Covington and died 25 April 1788.

5. Alexander Brownlie[4] [5], labourer[6], born 1789 at Braeside Covington. Married Marion Lightbody born circa 1786[7] and died 8 January 1851[8] prior to the 1851 census. Alexander died in 21 August 1852[9] at Covington. At the 1851 census, Alexander’s granddaughter, Margaret Brownlie[10] born circa 1849 at Pettinain was staying and also another granddaughter, Marion Forrest[11] aged 2 months, born 1851 at Covington.

They had issue:

1. William Brownlie, agricultural labourer[12] [13] born in 1810[14] at Meadowflat, Covington. William married in 22 January 1836[15] at Wiston to Margaret Smith in the Parish of Lanark born 1808[16] [17] at Carstairs and died 1879 daughter of Thomas Smith 1780-1841 and Marion Lindsay 1773-1855. William died in 1861 at Knowe Top Dalziel with enlargement of liver. Margaret had a brother, Thomas Smith[18] born circa 1806 in Carstairs. William and Margaret had a niece Jane Wilson[19] born circa 1849 at Covington.

They had issue:

1. Catherine Brownlie born 1837[20] at Pettinain. Catherine married in 1859 at Windmillhill Dalziel to Thomas Lightbody born 1834 and died 1914, son of William Lightbody 1808-1898 and Agnes Wotherspoon 1812-1864. Catherine died of cancer in 1885 at Killcadzow Carluke.

They had issue:

1. Marion M Lightbody born 1879 and died 1967. Married Robert Dewar born 1858 sdied 1912, son of Robert Dewar 1831-1889 and Martha Forrest 1829-1891.

William Brownlie and Margaret Smith also had:

2. Alexander Brownlie[21] [22] [23] born 1839 at Pettinain.

3. Jane Brownlie born circa 1846[24] at Dalziel and married Alexander Pollock. Jane died in 1901 at Carmichael Cottage Pettinain.

4. William Brownlie born in circa 1849[25] at Dalziel.

6. James Brownlie born 1820 at Meadowflat Covington and died 23 January 1905. Married Marion Neilson.
